Oberon

I do not believe I ever posted photo's of Oberon all finished. Well now is the time to change that I think.

Technically, he isn't fully complete, I still need to paint inside his mouth, but for now I don't feel confident enough to do that.  So for now he's sitting pretty on my shelf.

He's my first blue roan too, that was a great learning curve and I now have some better ideas as to how to tackle the colour next time round.

I think he got a minor placing a NZ Live, next time I think I need some documentation for his breed/colour combination though.

Battles Ended

After so much struggle with Robyn's Breyer Andalusian resin, he is finally done. I really like how he turned out as well. Very tempted to paint my Ian resin that same lovely buckskin.
But, Totilas and her Andalusian are both on their way home across the ditch. It has been lovely to have them on my shelf, even if just for a couple days. I would have been very happy to keep them here with me, but, you can't keep them all, and I'm super happy to have some of my work in her wonderful collection. Besides, I have more needing my attention for other people waiting very patiently...once I get some more primer.

They got felt on the bottom of their bases to replace the wee pad things that came off and also to help protect them when they are live shown from being dropped onto hard surfaces.

Here is finished photo's of both Andy and Totilas:

He has a lovely wee face I must say

Love this boy's blaze! So unique!

Flying Dust and Final Days

Finally today is the last day of school, 2 weeks holidays now, 4 weeks next term then my school life is over. Scary, kinda, everyone else seems to be freaking where I'm looking forward to it, no idea what's happening next year, where I'm going to be, what I'm going to do but I get to do my own thing with my life, completely. Give it some time I'll be missing the old life though I'd say.

But for now, I'm happy to be hiding away at home for awhile, looking forward to some alone time. Painting ponies and whatever else I may get up to.

Currently model wise, I have all but finished Robyn's Totilas. I'm super pleased with how he's turned out, he just needs his shoes done when I get to town to get some silver paint. There will be more pics coming when he's completely finished.

Loving his funky wee blaze.

And now I have restarted, for the third time, the Breyer BOTW Andalusian. Hopefully he co-operates this time round and goes the nice buckskin colour he is meant to be. Also will be working on a Smittyn resin to a seal bay and slightly resculpted SM G3 WB. All these are trade pieces and I can't wait to get them done and back to their owner's, that's one of the things I love about commissions is when the horse arrives home hearing from the owner that they're happy and the fact they have a wee piece of me, my time and effort, in their collection displayed on their shelves. There is a neat wee quote that was posted the other day, I love it because of how extremely relevent it is to the hobby and every artist in general. It's given me a new look on the whole buying and selling customs and resins, even OF horses is a part of this with the initial sculpting.

It's Been Awhile

So I seem to be not so great at posting, a combination of lack of motivation to write anything, things going on in my life leaving me in not so flash a mind frame and school, school is super busy at the moment - 6 art boards (A1 size I think) due in just over a months time, of which I have completed 2 so far. My creative juices seem to be going fully into those two subjects so anything modelly has kind of taken quite a bit of a step back, though I quietly have been doing little bits and pieces, like painting my Oberon resin, and working on a couple other trade pieces.

But for now, NZ Live which was held late August was a bit of a success, not so much where I would have liked, but hey, I supported it and got my horses out there to give it a go. But it was wee Munchkin who did me proud.

Munchkin, Breyer OF G2 Shetland - JCP Parade of Breeds
Out of the two classes he was entered in - Breed and Colour, he won both then went on to be Champion OF Mini Breed and Champion OF Mini Colour.

I am expecting my wee show string to be arriving home sometime this week.

Huge thanks to Kathleen for holding the show, proxying my horses and for the photos.

Very First Custom

Found this picture the other day, didn't think I had a picture of him, but here is my first ever CM that I painted back in 2009, he has way too much white for my liking and I thought that at the time as well.

He was an unknown mold, so an HSO, and rubbery, but neat all the same, slightly bigger than Breyer's MM's.

It's always neat to find old pieces of work and see how much you have progressed with things.

Questioning Things

I'm seriously thinking I need to take another look at my involvement in the hobby. I've only just got into resins these last few months after being in the hobby 5 years, while Firiona is still as she arrived, Oberon is making good progress clothing wise and I hope to have him done in time for the live show later this month along with another commission I have in the works.

But yesterday I received a parcel containing two lovely wee resins and where usually I would be pumped about getting them, I didn't feel much excitement, not like I did when I heard theyd been listed a couple weeks back. Maybe it's time for a step back from the hobby, or its just other things happening in my life that's taking all the joy or excitement out of things for me, *sigh* I really hope I get things sorted or things start looking up for me soon, so sick of feeling all over the place.

But until then, I'm still happy to see these two on my shelf, even if Smittyn is just visiting for clothes then heading back to her owner. Ian is so neat, I'm looking forward to having him finished, he'll make a nice young draft of some type.

The Resin Bug

It has hit me. A few weeks back I received a very lovely raw casting of Firiona, and sometime in the next week or so I am expecting two mini resins - Ian and Smittyn. Though Smittyn is not mine, only here for clothes then heading back home, she still gets to stay with me for awhile which is awesome.

Models haven't really been much of a priority for me lately, life takes over as everyone knows, so I'm thinking of selling a few models, need the money alot more than I need the models. Plus I have decided to take a new direction with my collection and focus on some more unique horses, resins and customs rather than OF regular runs as I've collected up until just recently. The new breyers that have come out recently I'm just not that taken by most of them, even one's I liked earlier this year and last year I don't think so great any more, which is good, saves me some money and makes it alot harder for me to buy lots of horses, quality not quantity right.

Finishwork Gallery

I was wanting to get a drop down menu done for my customizing, but with all the coding that needs to be done, I don't have the motivation or concentration to do that. Eventually perhaps I'll figure it out but it's been a couple years since I've done coding. So,  I'm hoping making pages will be just as effective and not look too jumbled in the pages menu up the top of here. It will take me awhile to get it sorted since I only really bring my laptop a couple days a week to school, but hopefully it will get there.

So until then, here's a picture of a logo I've whipped up the other night.

Done For Now

This wee guy is done for the moment. I have no Dull Cote to seal her as yet, I need to order some more. But that aside, I'm happy to be able to say I've finished something.
She's a portrait piece of our miniature mare, ironically called Millie.

The real (mini) Millie, Supreme at Rai Valley A&P earlier this year.
Now, to prepping I think until I get more Dull Cote at least.

Ploughing

A couple weeks ago my mum and little brother went to a local ploughing competition. There is some really neat pictures that mum took showing good detailing of the gear the horses use. I thought it would make a great performance setup, I myself would not be able to, but perhaps there is someone out there that could benefit from these.

Unfortunately I didn't manage to go with other commitments I had to do, but the photo's are pretty neat, and some lovely horses too.

LOVE this horses' eye, doesn't it look so nice and kind!
It appears some have the thing over their back and some don't, I don't know what the ruling is with this if any, but I would prefer it as it holds the chains up a bit not quite so close to the horses' legs and hooves. Just my thoughts though.

Quiet Evening

Had a pretty quiet slow evening, meaning I got a little bored. I killed some time by playing round in photoshop, my latest two got fancy wee edits.

Here's Oberons one

Joy to the World

The ponies are here. My very first resin included!! Oberon by Sarah Rose is absolutely gorgeous,  I love him. After I fix his broken ear I'm thinkiJng bay roan would look lovely on him but we'll see once these others are done and dusted. This boy being the very first resin I've ever seen in the flesh, I am totally amazed by the detail on him, his face and mane especially. If he is anything to go by, these guys (resins) leave Breyer and Stone for dead in regards to detail etc. I'm very keen to get more in the future.

My nekkid Oberon by Sarah Rose
My other newbie is a CM Stone Pebbles ASB, I don't remember who painted it as the deal was done through my Opa in Australia. I'm going to have to find out and send them an email because the shading on him is lovely, I'm very pleased to have it in my collection.

Central Coast Live

My horses did pretty well I thought at Central Coast which was held on April 27. I was pretty pleased with them having two out of three painted by me - Rumour Has It and Bangarang. Hoping they will get to another couple of shows in Australia while they are there then make the trip back home for NZ Live.

Here are their results, along with pictures from the show, thanks Abby for taking the pics and of course, showing them for me.
